ADEQUATE FUNDING

"I have long supported full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and will work with Congress to secure it. The LWCF, which was enacted by Congress during Lyndon Johnson's presidency, stands for the proposition that we should reinvest some of the oil and gas royalties that are generated by depleting our natural resources back into conserving other natural resources that are important to Americans -- for the acquisition and protection of urban parks and other recreational areas, important wildlife habitat, and other special places. One of President Bush's few campaign promises was that he would fully fund the LWCF. He has reneged on that promise; I will not."

"Our National Parks are an incredible treasure, visited by millions every year. I have supported increased funding for our National Parks in the Senate and will continue to do so as President. As First Lady, I served as Honorary Chair of Save America’s Treasures, which worked to preserve’s America’s historic sites in partnership with the National Park Service."
