Representative Ron Paul is a climate
skeptic and he has not released a
comprehensive plan to address the
climate crisis and our energy challenges.
In Congress, he has generally voted
against environmental policies. In fact,
early this year, Rep. Paul voted to block
requiring that a national intelligence
estimate on global climate change be
submitted to Congress.
1 In addition,
he has voted to allow drilling off of
America’s coasts and in the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge.
2 However,
Rep. Paul has consistently voted against subsidies for oil companies
3 and other antienvironmental
efforts.

On other key environmental issues, Rep. Paul:
- Missed an important vote in 2000 regarding a bill that would have weakened
Superfund
5
- Voted in 2006 against an amendment to reaffirm broad application of Clean
Water Act protections6
- Has voted for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge numerous times.7
- Voted in 2003 against an amendment to prohibit the Bush administration from
expending any federal funds to make changes to the roadless rule8
- Voted in 2005 against the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA),
which included weak and mostly unenforceable environmental provisions9
